The creators of Project Hail Mary are inviting fans back to theaters to experience the film with a new feature: a director’s commentary that plays along with the movie.

Project Hail Mary is a huge success, earning rave reviews and quickly becoming a box office hit. It currently boasts a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has already made over $330 million since its release.

This film is currently the highest-grossing movie of the year in the United States, and it’s significantly boosted first-quarter box office revenue to its best level in years.

The new movie is up against strong competition from The Super Mario Galaxy movie, which recently had a record-breaking week. To encourage people to return to theaters, Sony Pictures has devised a clever plan as a last-ditch effort.

How to download the Project Hail Mary directors’ commentary to your phone

As a huge fan, I’m really excited that Sony is letting us get the directors’ take on things! They’re including commentary from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, which should be awesome – it’s like getting to hear their thoughts directly!

It’s available free in the US app store from today (April 3, 2026) with directions as follows:

Phil Lord describes this as “another fun way to experience Project Hail Mary on the big screen!” Fans are looking forward to hearing stories from Lord and Miller about making the film, including possibly the amusing tale of Ryan Gosling becoming friends with a mop.
