In Where Winds Meet, switching between different factions, or Sects, is a key part of the game, particularly when you’re first starting out – whether you’re not enjoying your current one or just want to try something new.
Picking a Sect is an important choice in Where Winds Meet, but don’t worry – it’s not permanent! You can try out the unique gameplay and feel of each Sect without being stuck with just one. Here’s how you can switch between them.
How to Leave Sects in Where Winds Meet
Here’s how you can leave a Sect you’ve joined in Where Winds Meet:
- Open the start menu and select “Sects.”
- Click on “Betray Master” in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Select “Confirm” when prompted.
To finish the process, you’ll need to complete a task that fully breaks all ties with the Sect. This usually involves something called a Severance Trial (see details below). The Nine Mortal Ways Sect is the only exception to this requirement. Here’s what you need to know:
| Sect | How to Leave |
|---|---|
| Well of Heaven | Severance Trial (Perception Forest) |
| Silver Needle | Severance Trial (Perception Forest) |
| Midnight Blades | Severance Trial (Perception Forest) |
| Nine Mortal Ways | Pay Elder Ni Laoshan 50,000 Coins (Located in Harvestfall Village) |
If you’re removed from the Sect, you’ll lose your membership and all the benefits that come with it, including your reputation, status, rank, and access to the Sect Shop. Luckily, anything you’ve already bought from the Shop will still be yours, and the starting weapon you received when you joined will remain available to you.
What Are Severance Trials in Where Winds Meet?
Severance Trials are a unique type of Perception Forest event. They involve players who have left their Sects and place a bounty on their heads. Any player who manages to defeat someone participating in a Severance Trial will receive bonus rewards.
Okay, so here’s the deal with these Severance Trials. Once you’re in, you can’t leave until either you win or… well, you don’t survive. There’s no way to just back out. But honestly, you don’t even need to win to finish the trial! All we have to do is stay in the match until it’s over. It’s about endurance, not necessarily being the last one standing, which is pretty interesting!
You do not need to wait for a Severance Trial to join another Sect.
How to Start Severance Trials
Severance Trials begin on their own; players can’t choose when to take them. When you leave a Sect and a Trial is needed, the game will automatically place you in an available Perception Forest event.
As soon as a suitable match is found, you’ll be immediately joined into it without any notification. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing alone or with others – the game will interrupt whatever you’re doing and put you into the match. A Severance Trial always takes precedence, even if you’re in the middle of a quest, fighting a boss, or just relaxing.
A Severance Trial can begin anywhere from one hour to two days, depending on how many people are currently playing Perception Forest and how many available slots there are.
Can You Rejoin Sects After Leaving in Where Winds Meet?
Yes, you’re able to rejoin a Sect after leaving. There’s a 24-hour waiting period, but when you return, you’ll begin as a Novice Disciple and have to rebuild your reputation and progress from scratch. Your previous status and merits won’t be restored.
Waiting by changing time of day does not speed up this timer.
Once you join a Sect, you won’t be able to leave for 6 days. This rule prevents players from constantly switching Sects, and there’s no way to bypass it.
