The Velvet Shade sect, found in Where Winds Meet, is a group known for its lavish lifestyle and focus on pleasure, kindness, and enjoying life to the fullest. Once you join, you can even have multiple spouses. While this doesn’t offer any special advantages in the game, it fits the sect’s overall playful and extravagant nature.
Want to become a member of Velvet Shade in Where Winds Meet and get access to everything they offer, including their unique shop? This guide explains how! We cover the standard joining process, and also a helpful alternative method if the usual one isn’t working.
How to Join Velvet Shade in Where Winds Meet
There are two ways to join the Velvet Shade sect in Where Winds Meet:
- Get married, divorce immediately, wait 24 hours to finalize the divorce, then receive an invitation
- Automatically receive an invitation by reaching a certain number of Elegance in WWM
Currently, the system for earning Elegance points seems to be broken or hasn’t been fully added to the game yet, so we don’t know how many points you’ll need. Normally, you just need to wear your best outfits, and Velvet Shade will contact you. If that doesn’t work, you can try the divorce method as an alternative.
How to Join Velvet Shade By Divorcing in Where Winds Meet

To get married in the game, you first need to reach the ‘Companionship’ level of intimacy with another player. Then, use the ‘Partner Request’ option in the Social menu to propose to them and visit Shi Yimo in the Red Maple Forest to finalize the partnership. However, it’s important to immediately divorce that partner after getting married.
Luckily, this part is quick. You just need to talk to Shi Yimo one more time and choose to end the partnership. Getting to a close relationship with her doesn’t require a huge number of gifts either.
Now, you’ll need to wait a full 24 hours before you can return to Shi Yimo and complete the divorce. After that, you’ll receive an invitation to join Velvet Shade in your game inventory. Just complete the short quest that comes with the invitation, and you’ll officially become a member of the Velvet Shade sect in WWM.
Okay, so I ran into a weird bug where I didn’t get the Velvet Shade invitation after my divorce. If that happens to you, the first thing to try is just restarting the game and checking your inventory again. Seriously, that fixes it most of the time. But if you still don’t see it, you’re gonna have to bite the bullet and get married and divorced again. It’s a pain, I know, but that seems to force the game to give you the invitation.
