How To Defeat Knight Artorias In Elden Ring: The Forsaken Hollows

Knight Artorias, a fan-favorite boss from the Souls games, appears in Elden Ring: Nightreign as part of the The Forsaken Hollows DLC. Now you can battle this legendary warrior with your friends, but don’t underestimate him – Artorias remains a challenging opponent.

This boss fight will really challenge your team, using a variety of familiar attacks and unpredictable combinations. Be prepared for powerful swings with a large sword and relentless jump attacks. Here’s a guide to help you overcome Knight Artorias in The Forsaken Hollows.

Where To Find Knight Artorias

Artorias is a boss you’ll encounter on Day 2 of The Dreglord expedition. To access this expedition, you must first finish The Balancers’ expedition using any character.

Forsaken Hollows has harder bosses on the second day, like The Lord of Blood. Artorias can be especially difficult, so it’s best not to fight him directly. Aim to be around level 10 before challenging him, and use ranged attacks whenever possible.

How To Defeat Knight Artorias

First Phase

Artorias often begins the fight with a quick, straight-line thrust. Avoid dodging backward, as he’ll close the distance quickly. He’ll then follow up with a series of long-reaching, single-hit attacks. These attacks are slow, so they can be easily dodged by rolling in any direction with good timing.

Okay, so fighting Artorias gets really tricky when he starts rushing at you – he can close the distance super fast. I’ve noticed he always holds his sword up for a bit before he charges, which is my cue to get ready. If I’m the one he’s targeting, I just concentrate on dodging, and let my teammates hit him from behind or pelt him with spells. It’s all about timing those dodges and letting the team do the damage!

Pay attention when Artorias raises his weapon and quickly looks up – he’s about to do a spinning attack that hits everything around him. If you see that happen, back away immediately and use any ranged attacks you have.

Okay, so when Artorias does that attack, he likes to jump back right away. It’s something to watch out for if you’re trying to get a quick hit in. Honestly, if you can, try to heal yourself during that little window – it’s a good time to do it!

Artorias is back with his signature jump attack – a three-hit sword strike from above. While he pauses briefly between each jump, this gives you a window to recover from a dodge, briefly stand your ground, and then dodge again. This attack targets a single player, but it’s difficult to counter Artorias with only close-range attacks.

Second Phase

When Artorias loses about 40% of his health, he’ll begin charging up for an explosion – make sure you’re at a safe distance when this happens. He’ll also launch a volley of black projectiles that all move together, and these can follow multiple players. The easiest way to avoid them is to quickly run to the side.

He’s able to do this again during the battle—he’ll pause and gather energy for a few seconds beforehand.

Artorias will move much quicker and have greater stamina, allowing him to cover more ground. While his attacks – like thrusts, charges, and jumps – will remain largely the same, he’ll execute them at a faster pace and with greater frequency.

He also learns two new attacks. Besides his usual three-jump combo, he can now charge up for a few seconds – you’ll see energy building – before leaping and slamming down on a single opponent. Watch out and roll away when he comes down, though! It’s not just a slam; he’ll also try to grab someone. If he succeeds, he’ll explode and launch the grabbed character across the battlefield.

Next, he’ll perform a sequence of five attacks that come at unpredictable times. You’ll see a purple or pink trail behind his sword, signaling this attack. To avoid it, dodge the first hit, then wait two seconds. After that, dodge two attacks quickly, followed by a short pause, and then a longer pause before the final attack, which reaches quite far.

You can stop Artorias’ attack sequence by defeating a character. It’s also safer to attack from far away whenever possible, and avoid being near him while he’s attacking.
