A highlight of Octopath Traveler II is the ability to fully customize your character – choosing their skills, favorite food, possessions, and appearance. However, you might eventually want to switch things up and create a new look, so the game allows for changes.
You can customize how your character looks in the game, but you’ll need to play for a bit first before this option becomes available.
Let’s break down everything you need to know about changing your appearance in Octopath Traveler 0.
How to Change Your Appearance in Octopath Traveler 0

At the beginning of Octopath Traveler 0, you’ll customize your character’s appearance – choosing things like gender, how they look (sprite style), hair, and colors. These choices stay with your character for the entire game, helping them stand out from the other characters you’ll encounter.
It’s natural to want a fresh look, and you can change your character’s appearance in Octopath Traveler II. However, it requires some gameplay and story progression.
You can customize your character’s look by upgrading your town. This requires finishing the main questline, “Kindlers of the Flame,” which includes restoring Wishvale, gathering a lot of residents, and overcoming several challenges along the way.
You’ll be able to build the salon once you reach town level four, which happens around level 24 in the main game. This gives you a good idea of how much you’ll need to play to unlock it.
After unlocking the salon, you can customize your character’s look. Simply construct the salon, assign a recruited character to work there, and then interact with them to make changes.
You can change how you look by selecting the reset appearance option. This will open a menu where you can customize your appearance. Once you’re happy with your changes, tap the ‘done’ button at the bottom of the screen to save them.
What Can You Change About Your Appearance?
You can customize your character’s appearance throughout the game, but there are some limitations. When you first set up your salon, you’ll only be able to change your character’s hair – both the style and color. Luckily, you’ll have three hairstyle options to pick from.
You can unlock more ways to customize your character by upgrading your salon. Once it reaches level two, you’ll be able to change how your character moves and sounds.
Once your salon reaches level three, you’ll be able to customize your character’s appearance, including their body, face, eye color, and skin tone. You’ll also gain access to two new eye color options.
Upgrading the salon requires six Radiant Cornerstones, so remember to gather them as you explore.
