‘How to Be Normal and the Oddness of the Other World’ Boarded by Alpha Violet Ahead of Berlin – Clip (EXCLUSIVE)

The sales firm Alpha Violet, located in Paris, has acquired global distribution rights for the teen mental health drama “How to Be Normal and the Oddness of the Other World,” which is director Florian Pochlatko’s debut feature film, before its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The movie, centering around a young woman’s journey towards finding sanity following her discharge from a mental health facility, is set to debut in the fresh Berlinale Perspectives segment that highlights debut films at the festival.

In “How to Be Normal,” the character Pia, portrayed by Austrian actress Luisa-Céline Gaffron (“And Tomorrow the Entire World”), returns to live with her parents following her release from a mental health facility. As she navigates work, heartache, medication, and societal judgment, she finds herself in a precarious world that mirrors her own instability, according to the summary provided.

Alpha Violet co-founder Virginie Devesa commended “How to Be Normal” as a “creative and lively film,” pointing out that “Florian Pochlatko’s portrayal of our world is full of whimsy.

The creator of “How to Be Normal”, Arash T. Riahi (part of Austria’s Golden Girls Film collective), characterized the film as a captivating fusion of dramatic elements, satire, and supernatural action, predominantly targeting younger viewers who can relate to various themes portrayed in the movie.

In this story, the main character, portrayed by Luisa Gaffron, becomes a relatable symbol for the challenges faced by youths who are persistently striving towards self-improvement. They reside in a society where many things can be purchased, but a guaranteed future is not among them,” he continued to explain.

Florian Pochlatko learned the art of directing from Michael Haneke at the Vienna Film Academy. Before making his debut with the full-length film “How to Be Normal,” which he also authored, he produced various short films.
