How The Pitt cast ended up cameoing in historic The Simpsons episode

The Simpsons is a landmark television show, and The Pitt is a recently launched series that has quickly gained both popularity and critical praise. To celebrate The Simpsons’ 800th episode, the characters from both shows appeared together in a special crossover event.

In the 800th episode of The Simpsons, called ‘Irrational Treasure,’ Marge enters Santa’s Little Helper in a dog show in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, Homer gets caught up in a treasure hunt that’s similar to the movie National Treasure.

This special episode marks a big achievement for the show and includes guest appearances by Kevin Bacon, Quinta Brunson, and The Roots. Fans can also look forward to plenty of hidden references and inside jokes.

The story also involves Santa’s Little Helper becoming ill and needing to go to a high-tech veterinary hospital, where Marge meets three characters from a previous Simpsons episode, ‘The Pitt’.

The Simpsons vs The Pitt explained

The dynamic in ‘The Pitt’ – where seasoned doctors grill and direct those in training – is mirrored in this veterinarian’s office from ‘The Simpsons’.

Katherine LaNasa, who portrays charge nurse Dana Evans at The Pitt, immediately demands, “What the heck did you do?” before urgently calling for a “Code Purple.”

Noah Wyle, playing Dr. Robby, asks for a very realistic-looking stomach pump. He then jokingly requests the intern who always seems cheerful, even when dealing with difficult situations.

Taylor Dearden, who plays the character Dr. Melissa King, jokingly describes the scene as typical for the show, ‘The Pitt.’ She explains she usually starts with a polite ‘May I say…’ but is quickly interrupted by Wyle, who urgently tells her to be quiet – they have a greyhound to rescue and need her to quickly insert a tube down the dog’s throat.

How the crossover event happened

I was reading an interview with The Simpsons showrunner, Matt Selman, and he explained how the recent crossover happened! Apparently, it’s all thanks to Mike Price, one of the episode’s co-runners and producers. He’s a massive fan of The Pitt, and the team thought it would be hilarious – and really add some drama – to bring that show’s energy to the veterinary scenes. It was his idea, and everyone thought it would be a fun twist!

We then asked Noah and a few other actors to portray exaggerated, cartoon-like versions of themselves as veterinarians. However, the idea really originated with Mike, who was a massive fan of the show from the beginning and loved its wild, energetic style.

Selman explained that Price guided the actors smoothly throughout filming. Everyone was enthusiastic about participating because the movie felt like a heartfelt tribute to the original series, making the whole process quite simple.

Even famous actors, like Noah Wyle, are often really excited to be on the show. They’re amazed by the impact ‘The Simpsons’ has had – it’s such a big part of our culture and many grew up watching it.

Adjusting to a new place can be overwhelming for people, but Mike is great at guiding them and helping them stay calm.
