The latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday features a stunning moment of Cyclops using his full optic blast power. It’s easy to miss, but the background also appears to show the Sentinels – powerful enemies of the X-Men. Considering Cyclops is going all-out in this scene, it suggests the Sentinels will be a formidable challenge in the movie.

That raises the question of how strong they will be. Judging by how similar characters are usually shown, they’ll be a significant threat—more powerful than some past Marvel villains—but not the most powerful beings we’ve seen.

X-Men Sentinels’ Powers Explained

In Marvel Comics, the Sentinels are known as one of the X-Men’s most dangerous enemies. These massive robots are incredibly strong and can fly. They’re equipped with long-range targeting systems to accurately locate mutants and powerful energy weapons to attack them.

As a huge X-Men fan, I’ve always thought one of the biggest hurdles they face when battling the Sentinels isn’t necessarily the power of one Sentinel, but just how many of them there are! They never seem to show up alone. It’s always a whole group, and each one is already a tough fight with its size and abilities. So, imagine trying to take on multiple at once – it really forces the X-Men to think strategically and work as a team just to survive.

Considering their immense power, it’s easy to see why the Sentinels have been central to many important X-Men stories. They possess the ability to eliminate all mutants on Earth if the X-Men can’t stop them, and unfortunately, this has actually happened in some versions of events.

Thanos Is Most Powerful

It’s understandable why the X-Men and other mutants in Marvel comics worry so much about Sentinels, but when you consider all of Marvel’s villains, there are actually much more powerful and dangerous threats out there.

As a huge film fan, I always find it fascinating when a villain feels like a true universal threat. Thanos is a perfect example of this – he wasn’t just taking on the Avengers, but really the entire Marvel Universe! In Infinity Gauntlet, you see all the big teams – the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, even the X-Men – uniting to try and stop him. It really highlights how powerful and dangerous he was considered to be.

Both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame focused heavily on Thanos, making him the central figure in a massive conflict involving the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the people of Wakanda, and many other individual heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Whether he had the Infinity Stones or not, Thanos was incredibly powerful – strong enough to defeat even some of Marvel’s strongest heroes, like the Hulk.

Characters strong enough to fight – and even defeat – Thanos would easily overcome standard Sentinels, proving Thanos is far more powerful than these mutant-hunting robots. While Sentinels could pose a threat to the X-Men, they wouldn’t have stood a chance against the hero army that fought in the final battle of Avengers: Endgame, unlike Thanos.

How Powerful Are X-Men’s Sentinels Compared To Doctor Doom

Besides the Sentinels, several other Marvel Cinematic Universe villains pose a potentially greater threat, including Galactus, Ultron, Kang the Conqueror, and especially Doctor Doom. While we haven’t seen Doctor Doom’s full capabilities in the MCU yet, it’s reasonable to expect they’ll match his established power level.

Even without any extra power from outside sources – like when he’s at his most powerful as ‘God Emperor Doom’ or the boost he got during Secret Wars – Doctor Doom is incredibly strong. He’s far stronger than heroes like Spider-Man, Colossus, and Beast, but not quite as powerful as Marvel’s strongest characters, such as Thor, Hulk, Namor, and The Thing.

Despite any limitations, Doctor Doom possesses more than enough power to easily defeat the Sentinels, if portrayed consistently with his established abilities. Beyond his incredible strength, he commands powerful magic and his armor is filled with advanced weaponry, giving him a clear advantage.

While the Sentinels could provide some exciting action in Avengers: Doomsday, Doctor Doom poses a much greater danger.
