How Long Is Civilization 7? – Turns To Win And Playthrough Estimates

Unlike many games, determining an exact duration for completing a gameplay session of Civilization VII can be challenging due to its complex nature. Initially, the first few hours can feel overwhelming as you delve into the mechanics, which might lead you to spend more time studying the encyclopedia than actively playing. Additionally, the multiple difficulty settings available significantly impact the total playtime required to progress through all three ages in Civilization VII.

Of course, we understand that you’re curious about the duration of playing Civilization 7, and we’re more than happy to provide an estimate. However, please bear in mind that the time it takes to complete the game can vary significantly based on your playstyle and strategies. But generally speaking, a casual game might last around 20-30 hours, while a dedicated player could spend over 100 hours exploring every nook and cranny of this strategic masterpiece.

How long it takes to beat Civilization 7

As a dedicated Civ 7 enthusiast, I’ve found that the most effective way to gauge the duration of a gameplay session is by tallying up the number of turns you complete throughout the three eras. Granted, this doesn’t encompass every aspect of the game’s total length, but it does offer an invaluable means to track your progress. From my personal gaming history, I can approximate the number of turns required to successfully conclude a playthrough.

In Civilization 7, the number of game turns required to progress through all three ages depends on the speed at which you play. The quickest speed will result in the fewest turns needed to complete each age, while the slowest speed will take the maximum number of turns. There are four primary speeds in Civilization 7: Quick, Standard, Epic, and Marathon. In addition, there’s an “Online” option for multiplayer games only.

If you opt for the Standard game pace, it generally takes around 120 to 160 game rounds to finish, with the Antiquity Age requiring the most turns at the start due to the extra time granted to establish and fortify your settlement and produce units. As you progress through the Exploration and Modern Ages, fewer turns are needed to reach the end of each age. In my case on Standard speed, the Antiquity Age took 160 turns, followed by the Exploration Age with 150 turns and finally the Modern Age with 120 turns. However, keep in mind that your experience may differ based on the strategy you choose.

In essence, it took me nearly 35 hours in total to finish a standard pace game of Civilization 7. This wasn’t a quick run since there was quite a bit of reading through the encyclopedia and strategizing during each turn. Yet, I didn’t dwell excessively on decisions like what to construct or whom to focus on as my target.

Conversely, a swift gameplay session (Quick speed playthrough) will consume much less time compared to the conventional one (Standard speed run). To put it in perspective, my initial Quick playthrough took roughly 15 hours, with each phase (age) taking nearly five hours and approximately 100 turns.

To really conquer Civ 7, whether you choose Epic or Marathon speed, it requires more than 50 hours and hundreds of turns for each age. I didn’t complete a game at either speed, but the Antiquity Age concluded at approximately 300 turns on Epic and over 400 turns on Marathon. In essence, you might invest over 100 hours in a single Epic or Marathon run, especially if you increase the difficulty level and play on a vast map.

Indeed, let’s not forget that the map size and level of challenge significantly impact the duration of your gameplay. For instance, if you opt for the smallest map and the least challenging setting, you could easily complete a run within 10 to 20 hours. Conversely, selecting the maximum settings in all aspects will undoubtedly extend your playtime in Civilization VII substantially.
