Jennifer Lopez is known for quickly moving on from challenges, both in her personal life – like her very public split from Ben Affleck – and her career. So it wasn’t surprising that after her 2025 film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, didn’t perform well in theaters despite initial Oscar predictions, she reportedly moved on to new projects without dwelling on the disappointment.
According to Rob Shuter’s newsletter, Naughty But Nice, Jennifer Lopez decided to cancel her planned appearance at the Savannah Film Festival shortly after it was announced that the film Spider Woman would no longer be screened. People close to Lopez say the decision was entirely her own, and isn’t being seen as a withdrawal, but rather a personal choice. One source explained it this way:
She’s not celebrating failure. She’s pivoting.
It’s been a challenging year for Jennifer Lopez. Following her public split from Ben Affleck and a lot of media attention, her recent movies, Unstoppable and Atlas, weren’t as successful as hoped, despite significant investment and promotion. However, reports suggest she’s not letting these difficulties slow her down.
Some believe these events are actually helping her transform her image. A source familiar with the singer of “Waiting for Tonight” also told Shuter:
You know, what I love about Jennifer Lopez is she never stays still. She’s a quick study, always evolving, and totally unafraid to reinvent herself. She didn’t let the Spider Woman project hold her back – she just moved on! That’s classic JLo for you – she’s in control of her career and always looking ahead to what’s next.
Although it may seem like an exaggeration and shouldn’t be taken too seriously, this move would fit with Ana de Armas’s public image. Jennifer Lopez has successfully managed her career for years by knowing when to abandon failing projects or present them as valuable experiences.

I love the overall aesthetic of ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman,’ but Jennifer Lopez’s incredible hair changes throughout the film are what really stand out to me.
Bill Condon’s Kiss of the Spider Woman is a film inspired by both a Broadway musical and Manuel Puig’s 1976 novel. The story takes place in Argentina in 1983, during a particularly violent period known as the “Dirty War.” It focuses on Molina, a gay man imprisoned for his sexuality, and Valentín, a revolutionary who is being tortured. To cope with their harsh conditions, Molina tells Valentín about his favorite movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, featuring the captivating actress Lopez, and casts the two of them as the stars. As their imaginations run wild, a surprising and meaningful connection develops between the two men.
Okay, so the songs haven’t been everyone’s cup of tea, but as a film lover, I’ve been really struck by how emotionally resonant this movie is. What really stood out to me were the incredibly well-developed characters and the amazing way the director juxtaposed harsh, realistic political themes with these beautiful, fantastical sequences. It’s clearly connecting with people – right now, it’s sitting at a solid 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a good sign!

Jennifer Lopez didn’t just casually take on Kiss of the Spider Woman; she was deeply involved in the entire process. Reports say she oversaw everything from choosing the actors to designing the costumes, and she actively pushed for the film to be made, even hoping it would be an awards contender. However, when the project lost steam, she appears to have distanced herself from it.
What’s coming up for Jennifer Lopez? Sources say she’s concentrating on new ventures and what’s ahead. That includes a new romantic comedy called Office Romance, which she’s described as being quite risqué. This is a different direction for her, and the movie is expected to be available on Netflix sometime in 2026.
