Many fans were surprised to learn that Glen Powell voiced Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as the announcement came just days before the film hit theaters.
It was actually Powell who made it all possible. Chris Meledandri told Forbes that he contacted the actor shortly after the successful release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023 to ask him to join the project.
Meledandri recounted that Glen Keane was a huge fan of the character Fox McCloud and dreamed of being involved in a Star Fox movie. Meledandri found it amusing because he and Miyamoto were already discussing including Star Fox in their new project, while Keane was enthusiastically sharing his love for the character without knowing that it might actually happen.
Fortunately, the plan always included Star Fox appearing in the next game. But when Meledandri contacted him again, Powell had to be careful not to reveal any details.
I called Glen and stressed the need for complete secrecy – we didn’t want anyone knowing how closely this character would be tied to the movie. We also felt Glen Powell embodied the right attitude for the role, and he was a natural fit. It felt like a lucky break, really,” Meledandri explained.

Chris Powell, known for voicing Fox McCloud, is featured in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The news was revealed on Friday, March 27, 2026, with Powell sharing a fun video of himself dressed as Fox McCloud and celebrating at a movie theater.

As a huge fan, I’ve always loved Fox McCloud – he’s the main hero of the Star Fox games! He also had a really cool part in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and honestly, I’m really hoping Nintendo decides to give him his own movie someday. We’ll have to wait and see!
Regardless, Powell will appear alongside famous animated characters like Mario and Luigi, with Chris Pratt and Charlie Day providing their voices.
