This show continued the story of the historical drama Spartacus, delivering similar levels of intense action. It changed the original ending for Spartacus himself, and also reintroduced characters who had previously been written off.
The show launched on December 5th and quickly became a hit, concluding its first season on February 6th. It featured Nick E. Tarabay reprising his role as the main character, alongside familiar faces like Julius Caesar (played by a new actor) and Lucy Lawless as Lucretia. According to creator Steven S. DeKnight, we can expect even more original characters to appear in Season 2.
When asked if any characters from the show would reappear after Caesar’s death at the season’s end, the creator playfully responded by refusing to give away any spoilers.
He hinted at future storylines, saying, “I can’t reveal too much, but there’s another link to the original series still out there.” He explained that the season finale included a reference to the earlier show, mentioning that Pompey, who appeared at the end of the original, is currently a fugitive. He also noted that fans frequently ask about the possibility of seeing the character Crassus, as he’s often referenced in the current season.
DeKnight added that viewers should remember Crassus wasn’t a major presence until late in the original series, appearing after being mentioned for three seasons. While that approach is always possible, he’s currently prioritizing developing the new characters.
Although Starz hasn’t officially announced a second season yet, the show’s creator, Steven S. DeKnight, has already started planning its direction.
Right after the last episode aired, the show’s creator announced that they had already finished writing Season 2. However, whether or not it gets made depends on how many people watch and enjoy the show, though they’re pleased with the initial reaction and are prepared to start filming if given the go-ahead.
Spartacus: House of Ashur is streaming on Starz.
