You’d better stay awake to watch the sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, as it arrives on Peacock.
Originally released in 2014, Five Nights at Freddy’s quickly became a very popular indie game. Thanks to millions of players and content creators, the franchise has sold over 33.5 million copies worldwide. It’s become a beloved cult classic, and the recent movie adaptation has further solidified its place in pop culture.
Since debuting on Peacock, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has quickly become the most-watched movie on the platform. While critics haven’t been kind – giving it a 16% rating – audiences clearly enjoy it, awarding the sequel an 83% score. This mirrors the reaction to the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, which received a 33% critic score and an 86% audience score.
The movie Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 became available on Peacock on April 3rd, and has been available to purchase or rent digitally since December 23rd. The story picks up a year after security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) survived a terrifying ordeal at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. This time, he’s trying to protect his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), from the truth while investigating the sinister origins of the animatronic characters.
Okay, so this movie had a seriously stacked cast – Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Megan Fox, Mckenna Grace, even some familiar faces like Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, and Wayne Knight, plus Freddy Carter. Honestly, critics were all over the place with it – some loved it, some hated it. But here’s the crazy part: it made a ton of money. They only spent about $36 million to make it, and it pulled in over $240 million worldwide! It’s one of those films that proves box office success isn’t always about critical acclaim.
At Monster-Mania Con, Jason Ulrich shared that a third Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is in the works. He explained that while nothing is certain, the story is expected to focus heavily on the characters Henry Emily and William Afton. He emphasized that the writers were just brought on board, so details are still being developed. While a third film hasn’t been officially announced, the first movie’s ending strongly suggests the story will continue.
I’ve been hearing whispers about a possible late 2027 release, but Blumhouse isn’t saying much officially. Still, something Ulrich said recently makes me think things might actually be moving forward with the project, which is exciting!
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is available to stream on Peacock.
