VTuber IRyS recently apologized for a post where she talked about trying to be unkind to ChatGPT. Some people reacted negatively, pointing out the environmental concerns associated with using AI technology.
On March 12th, the Hololive EN streamer posted a screenshot of a chat with ChatGPT. She playfully tested the AI by initially being impolite, but immediately apologized afterwards.
She admitted to intentionally trying to be unkind to ChatGPT, but immediately regretted it and apologized.
In a screenshot, IRyS was seen telling the chatbot she was finished with it, but quickly apologized. The AI responded by saying an apology wasn’t necessary and offered to keep assisting her.
Some people criticized the post, pointing out that AI tools use a lot of energy and water to run the data centers they rely on, which is bad for the environment.

Honestly, I can’t believe people are seriously suggesting we wreck the planet just to get medical advice from a robot that isn’t even known to be trustworthy! It just seems totally wild to me, not gonna lie.
“Why does Irys waste 10 gallons of water to apologize to an AI CHATBOT,” another asked.
Honestly, it really bummed me out to see someone I liked getting involved with generative AI. I saw a bunch of other people online feeling the same way, and then a ton of memes started popping up making fun of the whole thing. It was a weird mix of disappointment and internet humor.
Some people came to IRyS’s defense, arguing the backlash was an overreaction common within VTuber communities. Depressed Nousagi, a VTuber expert and YouTuber, explained that while people often criticize Hololive for being too strict, they frequently overlook the fact that demanding and judgmental fans are a major reason Hololive talents struggle to enjoy themselves. They pointed out that some fans are simply upset about everything.
NAMIORII, an artist, commented that people were overreacting, stating the tweet in question wasn’t significant enough to warrant an apology.
IRyS deletes post and apologizes
Following the backlash on X (formerly Twitter), IRyS removed her initial post and issued an apology to address the concerns raised.
I’ve received feedback that my recent tweet upset or worried some people, and that wasn’t my goal at all. I’m truly sorry, and I’ve removed the tweet.
I’ve noticed some people were upset by my last tweet, and that wasn’t my goal at all. I’m truly sorry and have removed it.
