For years, many wondered if Hollow Knight Silksong would ever actually come out. Now, it’s not only playable, but has also achieved a major accomplishment just three months after its release.
Hollow Knight first came out in 2017 and quickly became a fan favorite, earning its place as one of the best indie games of the last ten years. Created by a small development team, it was praised for its challenging but satisfying combat, beautiful artwork, and vast, interconnected game world. So, it’s no surprise they started working on downloadable content.
Silksong evolved into a full-fledged game, complete with brand new areas to explore, enemies to battle, gameplay features, and a new protagonist. This ambitious scope resulted in an incredibly long and highly anticipated wait, and when it finally launched, it became a massive online sensation, achieving remarkable sales figures.
Hollow Knight Silksong hits a huge sales record
Team Cherry recently announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong has already sold over seven million copies in just three months. This number doesn’t even include players accessing the game through Xbox Game Pass, and they expect those numbers to be very high as well.

Team Cherry recently acknowledged the incredible response to Silksong’s launch. They expressed gratitude to the over seven million players who bought the game, and to the many more enjoying it through Xbox Game Pass!
They were surprised by the overwhelming response. “The number of players was incredible – far more than we anticipated, even causing some store websites to crash!”
Considering the original Hollow Knight sold about 15 million copies over eight years, the rapid success of Silksong is really striking. This comparison highlights just how quickly Silksong has become popular.
