During its initial weekend following the much-anticipated launch, Hollow Knight: Silksong saw an impressive number of players simultaneously enjoying the game on Steam.
On September 6, the eagerly awaited indie game reported a player count of 587,150 on the platform, surpassing its initial day’s total of 534,450 users and even outdoing the number it achieved on its first Friday (562,814). This record high ranks the game as the 17th highest peak in Steam’s history, positioning it among the most played games on the platform ever.
Despite a slight decrease in players due to it being a Monday, Silksong continues to thrive. Currently, the metroidvania boasts over 459,177 active players. Notably, it’s currently ranked fourth among Steam’s most-played games, surpassing Rust, Path of Exile 2, and Helldivers 2, and coming just behind PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike 2.
It’s important to mention that these statistics pertain specifically to Steam, as we can’t gather information about the game’s performance on other platforms like Xbox Game Pass.
Among this year’s games, Silksong stands out as one with an incredibly high number of players. Its popularity was so immense that people who were excited to play it after a wait of seven years faced a slight delay following the game’s launch, as it temporarily overwhelmed digital storefronts like Steam, Nintendo eShop, PSN, Xbox Marketplace, and Game Pass.
