Marlon Wayans addressed criticism of his latest film, *Him*, by pointing out that many of his previous movies, even those poorly received by critics, became widely beloved and culturally significant.
The film ‘Him’ generated a lot of excitement before its release, largely because Jordan Peele, known for his critically acclaimed horror films like ‘Get Out,’ ‘Us,’ and ‘Nope,’ was a producer. Peele’s success in the horror genre created high hopes for Wayans’ new movie.
The actor, famous for his roles in movies like ‘White Chicks’ and the ‘Scary Movie’ series, recently shared images from Rotten Tomatoes showing the critic scores for his films. Several of them, including ‘White Chicks’ and installments from the ‘Scary Movie’ franchise, received scores below 40%. He also highlighted his film ‘Him,’ which currently has a 28% rating from critics.

Wayans weighs in on Him critiques
Marlon Wayans recently shared a post on Instagram following the release of his film, ‘Him,’ which has received mixed reviews. Even TopMob gave it a two-star rating, calling it a bold attempt at something new with good acting, but ultimately concluding that some types of movies just don’t blend well together.
In his Instagram caption, Wayans stressed that reviews are not the final word on a movie’s legacy.
I have respect for film critics – it’s their job to offer opinions. However, one person’s opinion isn’t universal. Sometimes movies are innovative and take time to be appreciated, and art is always open to interpretation. Throughout my career, I’ve made films that weren’t initially well-received by critics, but later became classics. So, instead of relying on reviews, I encourage everyone to see the movie and decide for themselves. Sending love to all, and check it out in theaters now.
Marlon Wayans’ comments highlight a common difference between what critics think of a movie and how audiences react – a pattern seen throughout his career since the early 2000s. It’s worth noting that the movies he mentioned are all comedies, which generally don’t receive as much praise from critics. However, ‘Him,’ while containing some humor, isn’t primarily a comedy.
