Karadec has a major decision to make a major decision in High Potential.
ABC’s most popular drama is finishing its season surprisingly early in the 2025-2026 TV season. Because it started airing sooner than most shows, it’s also ending its run ahead of schedule. Despite the quick turnaround, the series has covered a lot of ground with characters like Morgan and Karadec, and the LAPD’s Major Crimes unit, including a major turning point in a key relationship.
Inspired by the French show HPI, the ABC series skillfully mixes Morgan’s personal life with her work as a detective. A central mystery revolves around the disappearance of Roman, with clues revealed slowly throughout the season. As Morgan solves crimes, she also forms close relationships with her colleagues at the LAPD, especially Karadec, who becomes her close partner. The chemistry between Olson and Daniel Sunjata suggests a possible romance, and the season 2 finale promises a significant turning point for their relationship.
ABC has released the official trailer for the 18th episode of High Potential, and it shows Karadec caught between his girlfriend, Lucia, and Morgan. This week’s case centers around a murder mystery involving Susan Kelechi Watson’s character. The trailer reveals that Morgan believes Lucia isn’t sharing everything she knows, which creates a tough situation for Karadec. You can watch the trailer here:
In the latest episode, “Family Tree,” Morgan makes progress in the case of Roman’s disappearance, but the show hints that Willa Quinn might not be the enemy. The trailer shows her scolding Elliot and Chloe’s mother for endangering them, suggesting she’s trying to help. This episode also gives Ava a storyline of her own, focusing on her efforts to plan her art show. Notably, the episode doesn’t mention the kiss between Morgan and Wagner from the previous episode.
In its second season, High Potential experimented with a new partnership between Morgan and Daphne. However, the show ultimately returned to its original dynamic, reuniting Karadec with his first partner and putting them both in a dangerous situation that landed him in the hospital. Throughout the season, the series subtly suggested a deeper, personal connection between Karadec and his original partner, but complications – including the return of Lucia – have prevented a romantic relationship from developing. This creates a familiar ‘will they/won’t they’ storyline often seen on network television.
Whether Lucia is connected to this week’s death or not, how Karadec reacts will significantly affect his working relationships. Morgan is incredibly perceptive and Karadec needs to take her insights seriously. However, listening to her could further damage his fragile connection with Lucia. Ultimately, the season 2 finale of High Potential will be a difficult time for Karadec.
