I’m really enjoying the second season of High Potential! It’s gotten off to a fantastic start. The crime drama, starring Kaitlin Olson, is already delivering, and the showrunner has hinted at some major developments for Olson’s character, Morgan Gillory. I’m excited to see where things go!
High Potential stars a mother of three, who’s also a brilliant crime solver, assisting the police department. Season 2 began with Lev “Oz” Osman (Deniz Akdeniz) and Daphne Forrester (Javicia Leslie) staying at a motel in Nevada. According to TVLine, High Potential’s showrunner, Todd Harthan, is hinting at future developments as the season progresses.
With the search for Roman Sinquerra still ongoing, the latest episode of High Potential Season 2 focused on Morgan’s internal struggle about whether to inform her daughter, Ava (played by Amirah J.), about the unfolding events. As Harthan explained, “There’s a balance between shielding your children and knowing when keeping secrets does more damage than good.”
According to Harthan, Morgan realized Ava was mature enough to deal with the situation and, recognizing Ava’s wisdom beyond her years, included her. However, things changed in Episode 3 when Ava was arrested for damaging one of Roman’s murals. The situation escalated when, while trying to explain to the police that her father had painted the mural, she ended up “assaulting” an officer with paint. This incident resulted in both Morgan and Ava being arrested and spending time in jail.
A Big Reveal is Coming in Season 2
Ava, after everyone calmed down, explained that she was upset learning the truth about her father leaving. She had previously believed he’d been kidnapped and hadn’t blamed him for that. But, realizing he chose to leave and had been nearby, she felt as though he didn’t care for her.
According to Harthan, Morgan’s biggest worry is the impact this has on her daughter. He described it as a constant, heavy weight on Ava’s mind – something she likely thinks about both when she wakes up and goes to sleep. Morgan simply doesn’t want her daughter to continue living with that burden,” he explained.
I’ve noticed a real shift in how Morgan is approaching things. It’s not really about lingering romantic feelings for someone who’s been out of her life for 15 years anymore. As Harthan explained, it’s now completely driven by her role as a mother. She just wants to find answers and, most importantly, get some closure for her daughter. It’s really powerful to see.
As a total movie buff, I’m already bracing myself – things are definitely going to get tough for Morgan. Harthan explained that Morgan and Ava’s quest to find Roman is “not going to be a smooth ride.” He went on to say that everything that happens along the way – the good *and* the bad – is going to be incredibly powerful and compelling. Apparently, it all culminates in some really big reveals, which has me completely hooked!
A new episode of High Potential will be shown on ABC on October 7th. You can watch it on Hulu starting the next day.
