ABC’s show, High Potential, didn’t start the season strongly, but it quickly gained popularity and recently broke a major television record. As one of the few new shows ABC premiered this fall, High Potential has been attracting more and more viewers throughout its second season.
Kaitlin Olson stars as Morgan Gillory in High Potential, a show adapted from the French series HPI. Morgan is a brilliant cleaning woman who starts working as a consultant with the LAPD’s Major Crimes Division. The first season quickly gained a following thanks to its clever stories and well-developed characters, and featured strong performances from a cast including Daniel Sunjata and Judy Reyes.
The first season of High Potential established the show’s setting and hinted at a developing personal mystery for the main character. However, many viewers thought the second season started off slower. Early episodes featured simple storylines that made it unclear where the show was headed, causing it to struggle initially. Thankfully, High Potential quickly picked up steam and regained its momentum.

The first season of High Potential ended strongly, showing the show knew what it was doing. However, some viewers were disappointed when the second season began. The new season kicked off with Morgan, Karadec, and the team trying to figure out who the ‘Game Maker’ (played by David Giuntoli) was, and this storyline had the potential to be complex and interesting.
The show High Potential initially relied too heavily on Morgan’s skills, solving the central mysteries of each case too easily. While there were unexpected turns, the resolutions felt rushed and gave Morgan an unfair advantage. For a while, this made the show feel like it wasn’t living up to its promise and wasn’t building enough tension. Fortunately, High Potential has since found a more engaging and complex pattern.

As a big TV fan, I was really excited to hear that High Potential is doing so well! Apparently, it just broke a major record – it’s the first show in over 20 years to become the number one broadcast primetime series. Variety reported that it hasn’t happened since ER dominated back in 1999! It’s amazing to see a 10 p.m. drama back on top like that.
In its second season, High Potential is exceeding expectations. The show has seen a significant increase in ratings, even surpassing a 25-year-old record previously held by ER, which was in its sixth season. This success suggests High Potential will continue to thrive.
