On The Beach, Physint, and OD, is finding himself increasingly swamped with work. He shared his thoughts about this on X/Twitter, admitting that he’s uncertain how long he’ll be able to keep creating given his current busy schedule. Kojima pointed out that the demanding nature of game development, along with various other tasks, can have a significant impact on both one’s mental and physical health.
As a dedicated game developer, I can’t help but acknowledge the toughest phase we all face – the infamous “crunch time.” Beyond juggling and coordinating Japanese voice recording sessions, this period invariably piles on other tasks such as commenting, explaining, essay writing, conducting interviews, engaging in discussions, and more. It’s a challenging yet exhilarating phase that pushes us to our limits.

In another instance, Kojima drew a parallel between himself and esteemed filmmaker Ridley Scott, who’s still producing large-scale films such as the recently released Gladiator sequel at the age of 87. As Kojima is currently in his sixties, he noted that at this stage, Scott had already produced the iconic movie Gladiator.
As I reach this stage in life, I find myself pondering how many more years I have left to remain “creative.” I aspire to continue for as long as I live, but will it be another decade or two? Each day seems like a race against time. Yet, at the age of 87, Ridley Scott is still actively working, and even in his earlier days…

On more than one occasion, Kojima has pondered about his health, both physical and mental. As he reached 58 years old in 2021, he pledged to keep his creative juices flowing as long as his body allows it. “Though my body may be faltering, my creativity remains unyielding. I’ll persist in creating as long as my mind stays sharp and innovative,” Kojima expressed then.
At present, Kojima is juggling several projects simultaneously. The upcoming release he’s working on is Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. In addition, he’s teamed up with Microsoft and Academy Award-winning director Jordan Peele for the “venture” OD, which seems risky. The idea for Physint came from fans who continually urged him to create another Metal Gear game. To add to this mix, there’s also a Death Stranding film adaptation in the works, co-produced by A24. Kojima is excited about this project, hoping it will distinguish itself amongst other video game movies.
