As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon hearing about Tango Gameworks’ rebirth as Tango Gameworks Inc., now part of Krafton Inc. Having witnessed the rise and fall of many game studios throughout the years, it’s always bittersweet to see one find new life after seemingly reaching its end.
Tango Gameworks has been a staple in my gaming library, with their survival-horror series The Evil Within sending shivers down my spine on numerous occasions. So, when I heard they were closing shop last year, I was genuinely saddened to see such creative talent disappear from the industry.
However, it’s heartening to know that Krafton stepped in and saved the day, acquiring Hi-Fi Rush rights, a game I thoroughly enjoyed playing back in 2023. It’s also intriguing that Tango Gameworks is still considering developing Hi-Fi Rush 2, even though it might not be a money maker for Krafton.
In the grand scheme of things, who needs money when you’re making games that bring joy to players like me? I can only hope that the new leadership at Tango Gameworks continues to foster an environment where creativity thrives and innovative ideas are given a chance to see the light of day.
On a lighter note, maybe now that Tango is under new management, we’ll finally get a proper Evil Within 3 instead of just hearing about it in whispers and rumors for the last five years! Fingers crossed!
Tango Gameworks has been rebranded as Tango Gameworks Inc., marking its new lease on life. This freshly renamed studio, responsible for Hi-Fi Rush, is now an official subsidiary of PUBG’s publisher, Krafton Inc. Previously, Tango was under the Xbox Game Studios banner but faced a challenging period that nearly led to its permanent closure until Krafton intervened.
Earlier this week, Tango unveiled their studio’s fresh beginnings and expressed enthusiasm about continuing to create games that bring happiness to players worldwide. This is the initial post from the official Tango account since May 7, 2024, when they announced a closure. This decision came after Tango was among four studios that Microsoft chose to discontinue operations at that time, with Redfall’s Arkane Austin being another affected studio.

As a long-time video game enthusiast and industry observer, I can’t help but feel a sense of intrigue and curiosity about the recent developments surrounding Tango Gameworks. August saw Krafton stepping in to save the studio, acquiring Hi-Fi Rush rights in the process. Founded in 2010, Tango is well-known for its survival-horror series, The Evil Within, which, it seems, will remain with Microsoft.
The studio was working on Hi-Fi Rush 2 prior to Microsoft’s closure, but an official sequel isn’t on the horizon just yet. Krafton acknowledges that Hi-Fi Rush 2 might not be profitable for them, and they are perfectly fine with that – as long as Tango chooses to proceed with the project.
Personally, I find it fascinating to witness the ebb and flow of the video game industry, and this acquisition by Krafton is a testament to the ever-changing landscape of game development. As a player, I’m hopeful that we’ll get to see Hi-Fi Rush 2 one day, but as an observer, I understand the risks involved in such a venture. It will be interesting to watch how this plays out and what impact it has on both Tango Gameworks and the broader gaming world.
Last year, Krafton CEO Changhan Kim emphasized the importance of allowing Tango to carry on being innovative and creating fresh experiences. If you’re interested, take a look at TopMob’s review of Hi-Fi Rush, a rhythm-action game that was unexpectedly launched in early 2023.
