A longtime actor from the Indiana Jones films recently shared his experience publicly for the first time after a scary accident on stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. He was seriously injured when he stepped in to prevent a 400-pound boulder prop from hitting someone during a live show.
A Disney employee quickly reacted to a dangerous situation, saving guests from a 400-pound boulder that came loose due to a set malfunction. Video of the incident is now available.
There’s a lot of discussion about whether Disney’s recent focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives – specifically hiring based on factors like race rather than experience – might be a contributing factor to their current challenges.

Robert Herrick, a veteran performer with the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular for over thirty years, recently spoke out after an accident during a show on December 30th. A 400-pound boulder came loose and rolled towards the audience, and Herrick sustained two fractured vertebrae in the incident.
Instead of running away, Herrick acted on impulse, immediately stepping in front of the boulder to keep it from hitting the guests.
A Split-Second Decision With Serious Consequences
Footage of the accident quickly circulated online, revealing the large prop flying towards the audience and hitting Mr. Herrick, causing him to fall. The scene was very chaotic, and initially, the severity of his injuries wasn’t clear.
Herrick confirmed he broke two bones in his neck from the impact. He’ll likely need to wear a neck brace for about eight weeks while he heals.
Even though his injuries were serious, Herrick didn’t want people to think he’d done anything particularly remarkable.
“My only thought was that thing could reach the audience,” Herrick said.
Rejecting the “Hero” Label
Although many people immediately called Herrick a hero, the veteran performer has pushed back against that label, explaining his actions were simply a natural response based on his years of experience, not an act of courage.
Herrick worked on the show for many years, starting as a stunt performer and later becoming a director. This background probably helped him quickly understand the risk and respond effectively.

Herrick has stated his priority wasn’t personal recognition, but rather avoiding a dangerous incident with the guests.
Recovery and a Return to the Show
I’m really glad to hear that Herrick is feeling positive about getting better and wants to come back to work as soon as his doctors say it’s okay. It’s heartwarming to know he’s got such good relationships with the cast and feels so connected to the show after all this time. It sounds like he’s got a great support system and a real passion for what he does, which is fantastic.

He shared his love for the show and his co-stars, and expressed his eagerness to come back after he’s feeling better.
Disney has temporarily changed its Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular show. Currently, the famous scene with the giant boulder is not being used, marking a significant difference from the usual performance.
A Reminder of the Risks Behind the Magic
This incident highlights that the safety of live stunt shows depends entirely on the quality of their planning, upkeep, and supervision.
Disney carefully promotes its theme park attractions as perfectly planned and safe, but this incident reveals how easily that image can be shattered when things go wrong. The injuries weren’t caused by anything the audience or performers did; they stemmed from a mechanical failure in a show that uses large equipment near guests and cast. Ultimately, Disney is responsible for ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

Disney hasn’t explained why the boulder came loose during the show, and has only said they’ve made some adjustments as a result.
Right now, everyone is focused on Harrison Ford’s recovery, and it’s likely that a quick reaction from the experienced actor prevented a much worse situation.
