In Overwatch 2, we’ll be seeing the introduction of hero bans, a feature well-liked from Marvel Rivals, and a long-requested map voting system, which is a community favorite choice!
At long last, a highly demanded feature by the Overwatch community – hero bans – is about to be introduced to the game. Similar to how it functions in Marvel Rivals at Diamond levels and above, this feature will soon be available in Overwatch’s competitive playlist as well. With stiff competition from other games, Overwatch is now stepping up its game by implementing hero bans.
On top of surpassing Marvel Rivals with an exclusive feature, Overwatch is introducing a unique element – map voting. This new system empowers players to select their preferred map, thereby skipping less favored ones.
Overwatch is getting hero bans and map voting
In the gameplay details, Blizzard hasn’t shared much about how hero bans and map voting will function mechanically. As for hero bans, Senior Systems Designer Gavin Winter mentioned that Overwatch will create its unique approach to it, focusing on addressing overpowered or annoying heroes without undermining weaker, niche picks.
In simpler terms, Winter mentioned that the system would operate quickly and provide players with detailed control over results. Additionally, he stated that unlike in Overwatch’s early days, there will be no hero ban restrictions involving pools of heroes.
In Marvel Rivals, the option to ban heroes is accessible solely to players who have reached the Diamond rank or higher, with those below this level unable to utilize it. If Blizzard adopts a similar approach in Overwatch, it could potentially prevent lower-ranked players from using the hero ban system.
Regrettably, the specifics regarding map voting have been scant, much less so than hero bans. However, this feature that many fans have asked for is intended to provide players with a chance to play on widely preferred maps such as King’s Row and Lijiang Tower.
In Season 16 of Overwatch, hero bans will be implemented, with map voting being introduced in subsequent seasons. Some exciting new elements coming to Overwatch include an enhanced “Perks” system, introduction of new characters, and the reintroduction of lootboxes.
