Here Are Two New Cards From Magic: The Gathering’s Aetherdrift Expansion

2025 will see the debut of the first expansion pack for Magic: The Gathering that is legal under standard rules, known as Aetherdrift. This set showcases exhilarating races happening at breakneck speed across various worlds in the Magic multiverse. In this installment, you’ll get a closer look at both the vehicles and their skilled drivers. Several previews of the set have already been revealed, giving us a glimpse into the action-packed scenes that await us.

In addition to what we previously shared about Aetherdrift, we’re excited to give you an exclusive sneak peek at two more common cards. One card allows you to secretly view several cards from your deck, while another card restricts your opponent’s graveyard actions and boosts your life points simultaneously. You can expect to find these cards in your Aetherdrift booster packs starting February 14th, making them easily accessible for everyone!

First, let’s take a look at Spotcycle Scouter:

  • Spotcycle Scouter (Artifact – Vehicle)
    • Costs one generic and one white mana to cast
    • 3 power/2 toughness
    • When this Vehicle enters, scry 2. (Look at the top two cards of your library, then put any number of them on the bottom and the rest on top in any order.)
    • Crew 1 (Tap any number of creatures you control with total power 1 or more: This Vehicle becomes an artifact creature until end of turn.)

The Scout ability of Spotcycle Scouter’s Scry 2 can prove extremely beneficial during the initial stages of the game, enabling you to shift unwanted cards from your deck’s topmost positions or providing a two-step advantage if those cards are useful for your strategy. Moreover, its stat line is robust given its low mana cost, allowing you an imposing figure as early as turn three. While it may not drastically alter the overall game dynamics, the Scouter in this case will undeniably contribute value to vehicle decks across various formats.

Our second exclusive card is Wreck Remover:

  • Wreck Remover (Artifact Creature – Construct)
    • Costs four generic mana to cast
    • 3 power/4 toughness
    • Whenever this creature enters or attacks, exile up to one target card from a graveyard. You gain 1 life.
    • Cycling 2 (Pay two generic mana and discard this card: Draw a card.)

Wreck Remover might fit well into additional decks as a counter to strategies centered around graveyard control, since it can eliminate a card an opponent aims to revive upon entering the battlefield, and even adds life in the process. Having multiple instances of this card on the field could quickly become advantageous, although with each costing 4 mana, having many isn’t likely to happen often.

  • Tarkir: Dragonstorm – April 11
  • Final Fantasy – June 13
  • Edge Of Eternities – August 1
  • Spider-Man – TBA
  • Unannounced Universes Beyond Set – TBA
