HBO’s The Last of Us Season 3 Casts Patrick Wilson as Abby’s Father

Season 3 is finalizing its cast. The upcoming season will focus on the character Abby, and two new actors have just joined the show.

Patrick Wilson, known for his roles in horror films like Insidious and The Conjuring, is joining the HBO series based on the popular video game from Naughty Dog. He will play Jerry, who is a key character in the game and appears frequently in flashbacks as Abby’s father.

The Last of Us Season 3 Has New Cast Members

The show also added Jason Ritter from Matlock to the cast, and gave larger roles to Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord. These actors, who played Mel, Nora, and Owen, had first appeared in Season 2 as past members of the Firefly group and allies of Abby.

Ritter is now a confirmed cast member, but he actually appeared in the show before – uncredited, as a Clicker in Season 1. A Clicker is what people are called after being infected with the mutated cordyceps fungus. He acted alongside his wife, Melanie Lynskey, during that earlier appearance.

Season 3 of The Last of Us will have some changes, including a new actor taking over a role. Danny Ramirez, who played a part in Spider-Man: No Way Home, was unable to continue due to scheduling conflicts. He was originally cast as a character who assisted Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) in her pursuit of revenge against Joel (Pedro Pascal). Clea DuVall, known for her work in Poker Face, is also joining the cast and will portray a member of the Seraphites.

In Season 2 of The Last of Us, a new group called the Seraphites appears. They’re a religious cult currently fighting a war against the Washington Liberation Front (WLF), led by Isaac (Jeffrey Wright).

Besides changes to the actors, there’s a shift behind the scenes for The Last of Us Season 3. Neil Druckmann, who co-created the show and the original video game, is stepping away, leaving Craig Mazin as the single showrunner for the new season.

Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Jeffrey Wright will portray Dina, Tommy, and Isaac in the upcoming series.

The Last of Us Season 3 Will Tell Abby’s Story

Season 3 will center around Kaitlyn Dever’s character, Abby, who was first introduced in Season 2. Following the dramatic ending of Season 2, Craig Druckmann explained that moving to HBO allowed the show to fully embrace its bolder choices.

The choices we made were necessary for the story, and honestly, I’m still surprised they allowed us to shape the series this way. We just finished Season 2, and Season 3 will feature Kaitlyn Dever – spoiler warning! – in a leading role. HBO Max hasn’t revealed the official plot for the new season yet.

You can watch seasons one and two of The Last of Us on HBO Max. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, season three is expected to arrive around 2027.
