Fans of epic stories have a new show to look forward to! A popular fantasy series is coming to HBO in just four days. Television has become a great place for fantasy, as these stories often work best when they have time to unfold – though some, like The Lord of the Rings, have also found success as blockbuster movies.
Over the last ten years, television has been a major source of exciting fantasy releases. Game of Thrones became a hugely popular and critically acclaimed show, despite its controversial finale. Following its success, House of the Dragon, the first of several planned spin-offs, was also well-received. Now, the fantasy world is expanding with a new and unique offering.
Game Of Thrones’ Next Spinoff Releases This Week
As a huge fan of both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, I’ve noticed they really feel like they’re cut from the same cloth – epic scope, lots of intrigue, and a pretty dark vibe. But honestly, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms feels different. It’s a fresh take within that same world, and so far, it’s offering something we haven’t really seen in live-action Game of Thrones before.
The new series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will debut on HBO this Sunday, January 18th, at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific time. The first season will have six episodes, released one per week on Sundays. 2026 is shaping up to be a big year for the Game of Thrones universe, as the third season of House of the Dragon is also scheduled to premiere this summer.
Why HBO’s A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Is Worth Watching
Set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms offers a lighter take on the world of Westeros. The new HBO series follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a wandering knight, and his young squire, Egg.
Unlike Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, which center on the rulers of Westeros and their power struggles, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms shifts the focus to the everyday lives of people within the realm. It offers a new perspective on the familiar world, telling the story through the eyes of an ordinary traveler.
As of today, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Jordan Williams of ScreenRant highlighted the show’s positive impact on the Game of Thrones universe, noting that it doesn’t try to replicate the original series’ large scope or grim tone. Overall, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is a worthwhile watch.
