Ever since his comeback, I’ve been absolutely thrilled by how Hazard has dominated the Overwatch 2 meta. He’s become such a force to reckon with that he’s practically taken over elite gameplay. In fact, it seems like almost every Top 500 Tank player has chosen to specialize in this hero.
In Overwatch 2, new heroes aren’t introduced frequently, yet when they are, they tend to significantly alter the game’s strategy (or meta). Launching heroes in a powerful state encourages more players to pick them up and master them, which makes it simpler to balance them by reducing their power later on.
Nevertheless, Hazard stands out as something exceptional. A glance at the top 500 rankings for the Tank category across all regions reveals the true extent of his dominance.
He’s clearly overtuned, and top Overwatch 2 players know it.
Hazard is everywhere in Overwatch 2’s Top 500
Achieving a rank within the top 500 in Overwatch 2 isn’t an easy feat. Despite some of the elite Overwatch players migrating to Marvel Rivals, the struggle for dominance on the leaderboard remains intense, and the journey towards the top is challenging.
On the other hand, the task has become significantly more manageable due to Hazard, a character widely appreciated by Tank enthusiasts. With his blend of deadliness, durability, and agility, he proves to be an effective choice, with top-tier Tank players capitalizing on his strengths to inflict substantial damage.
Approximately 254 of the top 500 players in the Americas primarily use Hazard as their preferred hero, but this figure does not account for those who also frequently play him as a secondary or tertiary hero.
Interestingly enough, Asia is where he’s most favored among the top 500 players, with a staggering 70% of them choosing Hazard as their primary hero! It’s also important to note that this number doesn’t take into account those who have him as their second or third choice. Conversely, The Americas seems to be his least preferred region among the top players.
Given that many top-tier Overwatch players have originated from Korea and its scene significantly influences the competitive landscape, it’s not unexpected that he was swiftly chosen by other players.
Moreover, although his role is that of a tank, he performs similarly to a Damage Per Second (DPS) character but with a larger health pool. His fundamental attack, featuring rapid shotgun-like discharge, deals tremendous damage to any adversary.
The game Hazard offers a great deal of control to the player regarding the match’s outcome, particularly excelling when played by an experienced gamer. Consequently, it’s not unexpected that this game is highly favored among the top 0.001% of Overwatch 2 players.
In the game Overwatch, particularly in its 5v5 format, his extraordinary control suggests that he might benefit from a bit of adjustment. Whether this dominance will persist in the 6v6 mode is yet to be determined.
