Harvey Weinstein ‘Begging’ to Move Up Trial Date: ‘I Want to Be Out of This Hellhole’ and ‘I Can’t Hold On’

The trial date for Harvey Weinstein, the former film producer who has fallen from grace, has been scheduled for April 15th in New York. However, Weinstein has requested an earlier trial commencement because of his recent cancer diagnosis and deteriorating health condition.

In a Manhattan court appearance this past Wednesday, I found myself in the role of an observer as Harvey Weinstein made a request to Judge Curtis J. Farber. The focus of his appeal? A faster start date for his upcoming retrial, which was initially set for April.

Weinstein pleaded with Farber in court, as reported by People Magazine. ‘I can’t endure it,’ he said, ‘please shift the hearing…I desperately want to escape from this nightmare.’

In October, Harvey Weinstein was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and has been incarcerated at Rikers Island as he awaits a new trial. He stated that he “won’t be available” on April 15th and asked Judge Farber to move the trial forward, even a week earlier to April 7th. Weinstein has received treatment for his cancer at Bellevue Hospital, as well as leukemia, diabetes, heart disease, and sleep apnea. In September, he underwent emergency heart surgery.

In 2021, the New York Court of Appeals reversed Harvey Weinstein’s rape conviction from the previous year. The appellate court decided that the initial trial made an error by permitting three additional accusers to share their own assault accusations, which were not relevant to the case against Weinstein. These testimonies biased the jury against him and didn’t provide any new evidence concerning the charges; therefore, the appeals court nullified the conviction and demanded a new trial.

In September, an additional sexual misconduct accusation led to Weinstein being indicted. This charge came after a woman claimed he sexually assaulted her in a Manhattan hotel room sometime between April 29, 2006, and May 6, 2006. He has pleaded not guilty in response to these allegations.
