The show is being revived as a limited series with a completely new group of actors. While many of the original cast members have contacted the new actors, Alfred Enoch, who played Dean Thomas, actually had a chance to meet the actor taking on the role now.
Elijah Oshin recently announced on Instagram that he’s met Alfie Enoch, the actor who will play the new character sharing a dorm with Harry and Ron. Oshin posted a picture of the chance encounter, explaining he bumped into Enoch at a subway station.
Harry Potter’s Two Dean Thomas United
Oshin posted a picture and a short video of the pair chatting in a subway station.
I met Alfie Enoch—the actor who played Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter films—about three months ago while heading to a football game! I’m still excited that I got to meet him, especially since I’m now playing the same role in a new Harry Potter project.
Dean Thomas is a wizard with one magical parent – his father – and one non-magical parent (a Muggle mother). He and Seamus Finnigan became close friends and were roommates along with Harry, Ron, and Neville. Before Harry and Ginny Weasley became a couple, Dean dated Ginny during their sixth year at Hogwarts.
The Original Cast Is Supportive of the Reboot
Alfred Enoch isn’t alone in giving the new cast of the Harry Potter series his support. Daniel Radcliffe, the original Harry Potter, previously shared his excitement about the adaptation and expressed his desire for the new series to forge its own path independently.
Daniel Radcliffe mentioned that while actors auditioning for Harry Potter don’t need to contact him, he is aware of some people involved in the new production. He confirmed someone did reach out, and he received a kind message in return.
Okay, so get this – I’m a huge fan, and I heard about the new Harry Potter series and who’s leading it! Apparently, it was totally crazy for McLaughlin when he found out. He was on the train when his dad handed him a letter, and when he finally got to the signature, it just said ‘Dan R.’ He was losing his mind, but he had to play it cool right there on the train! Can you imagine?!
Rupert Grint, known for playing Ron Weasley, revealed he wrote a letter to the new actor taking on the role. He described it as ‘passing the baton,’ and said he wished the new actor well, sharing that he’d thoroughly enjoyed his time in the role and hoped the new actor would feel the same way.
In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Lox Pratt discussed reaching out to the family involved in a difficult situation. He explained that he’s made contact and believes it’s crucial to offer genuine support, especially given the unusual and serious nature of the circumstances. Pratt emphasized he’s providing his direct contact information – his phone number and address – to both the individual and their parents, as well as anyone else who might need it.
Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy, gave the young actor some playful advice: enjoy the experience, take lots of photos, and maybe even pocket a few souvenirs – they could be valuable later! He also offered his support, saying he was available if the actor ever needed encouragement or had questions.
The Harry Potter series debuts on HBO Max on Christmas.
