Harrison Ford Says Helen Mirren Is More of a ‘Badass’ Than a Dame

Helen Mirren truly wowed everyone at the Golden Globes, and the night hadn’t even reached its peak! The Globes held a special pre-show, Golden Eve, to celebrate its lifetime achievement awards, and Mirren received the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Harrison Ford, her co-star in 1923 and a close friend, introduced her by saying she’s anything but a ‘dame,’ and she quickly proved him right. Ford described her character in 1923 as a powerful, strong mother – a ‘badass,’ as he put it – and said it’s amazing to watch her play such roles, earning a huge round of applause.

It quickly became clear why Ford admired her so much. When accepting her first American award from the Golden Globes, she playfully joked about the trophies themselves. She said the Globes committee, despite being a bit unusual, had recognized her lesser-known film, Losing Chase, and awarded her a beautiful golden globe, and then another. She quipped, “I ended up with two large globes, which, as you can imagine, was quite beneficial for my career.”
