Harley Quinn Killed by Justice League Member in Shocking DC Move

Most people didn’t think Harley Quinn had much of a chance when she was announced as a fighter in the DC K.O. battle. Although Harleen Quinzel is well-liked, she’s not as powerful as characters like Superman or Wonder Woman. Despite this, Harley managed to shock everyone – even her opponent – with the way she was defeated.

The comic DC K.O.: Harley Quinn vs. Zatanna, written by Leah Williams and illustrated by Mirka Andolfo, features a best-two-out-of-three-rounds battle. Fighters can transform into any version of themselves from throughout their history.

Zatanna’s magic is incredibly powerful – she can literally change reality by speaking a word, which meant Harley Quinn didn’t stand much of a chance in a straight-up magical battle. But Harley is resourceful and figured out Zatanna’s key weakness: she needs to be able to speak to cast spells. Harley used this to win the first round, allowing her to advance based on her fighting abilities. Even with that advantage, though, Harley eventually lost the fight.

How does Harley Quinn die?

During rounds two and three, Harley Quinn deliberately provoked Zatanna with insults, pushing her closer and closer to losing control. The last thing Harley said – calling Zatanna “daddy’s girl” and suggesting she was still living in her father’s shadow – finally made Zatanna snap. In a fit of rage, Zatanna attacked Harley with a magical weapon. But Harley had anticipated this, and it was all part of her scheme.

Harley knew she didn’t stand a chance against the Justice League‘s strongest members in the tournament, but she thought she could defeat Zatanna. She realized Zatanna had the potential to win everything if she just unleashed her full power. To push Zatanna to do that, Harley intentionally tried to provoke her. It was surprisingly selfless of the usually unpredictable Harley Quinn, and a smart strategic move.

DC K.O.: Harley Quinn vs. Zatanna #1 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
