Tamsin Greig and Joanna Scanlan gear up for a rocking performance in the initial glimpses of their upcoming BBC/BritBox series, titled “Riot Women.

In a creative twist by “Happy Valley” mastermind Sally Wainwright, we follow the journey of five middle-aged women as they establish a punk-rock band and participate in a local competition. This unique endeavor serves as a platform for them to express their frustrations towards their demanding work, intrusive parents, difficult children, and bothersome partners.

Throughout the narrative, it’s not just their music that unites them; a powerful secret from the past gradually emerges, tying Kitty and Beth, the unexpectedly talented duo behind the band, into a complex relationship – one that could potentially shatter everything.

Rosalie Craig, Lorraine Ashbourne, Amelia Bullmore, Taj Atwal, Chandeep Uppal, and Macy Jacob-Seelochan are among the notable stars of this production. The band ARXX has composed unique music specifically for this program.

Wainwright, who is responsible for creating, writing, directing, and executive producing the series, expressed a fresh wave of enthusiasm about the show as they work on editing it,” he shared. “I can hardly wait to unveil it to everyone!

The TV show is being created by Drama Republic, a subsidiary of Mediawan, for both the BBC and BritBox. In the United Kingdom, the BBC will broadcast the series towards the end of this year on their linear channel as well as iPlayer. On the other hand, BritBox holds the rights to air the show in the U.S. and Canada.

Jessica Taylor (“Happy Valley”) serves as the show’s producer. Meanwhile, Roanna Benn (“One Day”) takes on the role of executive producer at Drama Republic. Tanya Qureshi is involved in this production for the BBC, while Robert Schildhouse and Jess O’Riordan are part of it for BritBox.

Mediawan Rights are handling global distribution with the participation of Entourage Ventures.
