As a film enthusiast with a soft spot for the 90’s comedies that shaped my adolescence, the news of “Happy Gilmore 2” is like finding a long-lost golf ball in the rough – it’s unexpected yet incredibly exciting! Adam Sandler’s return to the titular character is a nostalgic journey down memory lane, and with familiar faces like Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald reprising their roles, I can almost hear the crowd chanting “Happy!” once more.
Adam Sandler returns to the golf green in a sneak peek for “Happy Gilmore 2” on Netflix, almost three decades since the initial film, which remains one of his most cherished characters.
Netflix, along with Adam Sandler, shared a sneak peek of “Happy Gilmore 2” on Christmas morning, marking the first instance where Netflix live-streamed not one but two NFL matches on their platform.
In 2025, Sandler’s golfing saga continues on Netflix, with familiar faces and new additions to the cast. Julie Bowen reprises her role as Virginia Venit, alongside Christopher McDonald as the nemesis Shooter McGavin. Joining them for the first time are stars such as Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley from “The Substance”, comedian Nick Swardson, NFL star Travis Kelce, Scott Mescudi (also known as rapper Kid Cudi), and Benny Safdie, who previously worked with Sandler in “Uncut Gems.
Kyle Newacheck, who worked with Sandler and Aniston on Netflix’s “Murder Mystery,” is taking charge of “Happy Gilmore 2.” The follow-up to the original film has been penned by Tim Herlihy. Dennis Dugan, director of the initial movie, will serve as executive producer, while Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds will produce the project.
In the initial film, titled “Happy Gilmore,” starring Adam Sandler, we have a character named Happy Gilmore who’s unruly, has anger issues, and was once a skilled hockey player. He finds himself on a quest to settle his grandmother’s tax debts. To do this, he decides to participate in a professional golf tournament, hoping to win the substantial prize money. This unexpected journey takes him on an unusual path, culminating in a physical altercation with the then-host of “The Price Is Right,” Bob Barker, during the movie’s events.
