The era of new content for Halo: Infinite is ending. Microsoft and Halo Studios announced on Friday’s livestream that the upcoming ‘Operation: Infinite’ update will be the final major update for the game.
Halo Studios recently posted a message on the official Halo website thanking fans for their support of Infinite. They explained that the team will now focus on several Halo games currently in development – something Microsoft has been discussing for over a year.
We’re working on several Halo games at the same time, so we need everyone on the team to focus on creating amazing experiences for our players – just like the Halo community has always supported us. While we’ll continue to update and support Halo Infinite, this latest update, Operation: Infinite, is the last big content addition we have planned for now.
Currently, the only Halo game officially in development is a remake of the first Halo, titled Halo: Campaign Evolved. This will be the first time a Halo game is available on PlayStation 5. There’s also been talk of a new, ongoing online Halo game, but that hasn’t been confirmed. If true, this new game might follow in the footsteps of Halo Infinite.
So, I was reading about this old Halo MMO that Ensemble Studios – the guys who made Age of Empires – were working on way back in 2008. Apparently, it got completely canceled, and Sandy Peterson, who worked on it, said it wasn’t a creative decision at all. He claims Don Mattrick, who was in charge of Xbox at the time, just killed the project to protect his own stock bonus. Pretty wild to think a game could get axed for something like that!
Marcus Lehto, one of the original creators of Master Chief, expressed his happiness with the upcoming Halo remake. However, another developer who previously worked on Halo criticized some of the changes made in the new version.
