Halo Infinite Is Getting The Needler Model From Halo: Combat Evolved

Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the original Halo: Combat Evolved, the game that launched the popular Halo franchise in 2001. To celebrate, Halo Infinite is bringing back a classic weapon – the Type-35 Needler – from the very first game.

In the Halo universe, Needlers are weapons created by the alien Covenant. They fire crystals that actively seek out and follow their targets. While several versions of the Needler are already in Halo Infinite, the Type-35 is a newer, more powerful version. Players can acquire it by purchasing the final Halo Championship Series bundle, launching on October 21st.

It’s notable that this announcement comes as rumors suggest the Halo World Championships will showcase a complete remake of Halo: Combat Evolved. This isn’t just an updated version like the 2011 release; reports indicate it’s being rebuilt from the ground up by Halo Studios, with support from Virtuos, the team behind the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. The remake is also said to utilize a unique engine combining Unreal Engine 5 and technology from Halo Reach. While Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed it, this new Halo: Combat Evolved could potentially be the first Halo game available on PlayStation.

According to a new report, Halo Studios is developing a live-service Halo game planned for release next year to commemorate the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Microsoft and Halo Studios will reveal details about the next Halo game on Friday, October 24th at 1:00 PM Pacific Time / 4:00 PM Eastern Time, during the Halo World Championships.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Halo: Reach last month, Halo Studios brought the Invasion game mode to Halo Infinite. This new mode features a total of six maps, with two of them being updated versions of classic maps from the original Halo: Reach.
