At the Halo World Championships, Microsoft officially announced the remake of the original Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved. This marks the first time a Halo game has ever been released on PlayStation 5, or any PlayStation console. Microsoft and Halo Studios also confirmed that future Halo games will be available on both PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC.
Okay, so after Halo Studios officially revealed ‘Campaign Evolved,’ their community director, Brian Jarrard, came on stage at the Halo World Championships… and get this, he was wearing a PlayStation shirt! It was a pretty bold move considering he was just announcing that Halo games were going to be released on more platforms, including PlayStation. Definitely a statement!
This is a major milestone we’ve been working towards for a long time,” explained Jarrard. “We’re thrilled to bring Halo to even more players and share the same passion we’ve had for the franchise for the past 24 years. As someone focused on the community, I know our fans are eager to invite their friends to experience Halo too. This simply means more opportunities for everyone to enjoy Halo – it truly marks a new beginning. Starting with ‘Halo: Combat Evolved,’ Halo is now available on PlayStation.
It’s not surprising to see more Xbox games appearing on PlayStation. Xbox president Sarah Bond recently stated that keeping games exclusive doesn’t make sense for many players. Over the past two years, a growing number of Xbox titles, including the popular Gears of War series, have been released on PlayStation. In fact, Xbox games have even topped the best-seller lists on PlayStation’s US store several times this year.
Although many expected an announcement at the Halo World Championships, Microsoft didn’t reveal the live-service Halo game that’s been discussed. However, Microsoft has confirmed they’re working on several new Halo titles. With the franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary next year, a remastered version of Halo: Combat Evolved is planned for release in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
