Halloween is almost here, and October is a great time to enjoy spooky films – not just on Halloween night, but all month long! If you’re looking for a scare or want to get into the Halloween spirit with something a little less frightening, we’ve put together a list of five movies available on Netflix. We’ve included something for every taste, with a mix of truly terrifying and milder horror options.
5 Halloween movies on Netflix
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton, Warner Bros., 2024
Beetlejuice is a well-known and beloved film. Many moviegoers consider it the ideal choice for a Halloween viewing, and a sequel has recently been gaining buzz. It’s clear that Tim Burton directed the movie, featuring Michael Keaton as the mischievous and frightening Beetlejuice. The story centers around the Deetz family, spanning three generations, as they return to their home in Winter River. Lydia Deetz finds her life disrupted once more by Beetlejuice when her own daughter unexpectedly ends up in the Afterlife.
Death Becomes Her

Death Becomes Her is a darkly funny movie featuring Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis. Director Robert Zemeckis blends a spooky mood with over-the-top, cartoon-like humor, similar to the classic Looney Tunes. When a woman is left by her husband, she’s determined to get revenge and does so with flair. Helen uses a strange potion to regain her youth and beauty, hoping to show her ex-husband what he’s missing, but his new girlfriend, Madeline, soon becomes jealous. After learning Helen’s secret, Madeline tries the same potion and quickly discovers the downsides of living forever.
28 Years Later

The latest addition to our list is a 2025 release – the follow-up to the acclaimed horror movies 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later. It’s now available on Netflix. The film once again features Danny Boyle and Alex Garland guiding us through a world after a global disaster, focusing on a person who escaped a deadly virus on a remote island, only to venture onto the mainland. There, they find that not just the infected have changed, but also those who managed to survive. This is a deeply affecting and emotional story that resonates with current anxieties, making it especially impactful for viewers.
Smile

I just finished watching this really intense R-rated movie about Dr. Rose Cotter. It starts with her seeing something completely disturbing with one of her patients – a truly traumatic event. After that, things just start going downhill for her. She begins experiencing these terrifying things she can’t explain, and it’s not just scary, it starts taking over her whole life. The movie follows her as she’s forced to confront some difficult things from her past if she wants to survive and escape this new, horrifying reality she’s stuck in.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

A truly iconic horror film that everyone knows, but it’s still perfect to watch around Halloween. This movie, made over 50 years ago, remains incredibly effective. It follows five friends traveling to rural Texas to visit a gravesite. During their trip, they stumble upon what appears to be an deserted house, concealing unsettling secrets. Within this terrifying cabin dwells a sinister presence wielding a chainsaw.
