Horror game fans have a new title to look forward to in about a year! Illfonic is creating a third official video game based on the original 1978 Halloween film, following previous games released in 1983 and 2024 (RetroRealms: Halloween).
Michael Myers’s famous mask has shown up in a few video games, like Call of Duty: Ghosts, but no game has really captured the scary feeling of the original Halloween movie—until Illfonic started working on their own Halloween game.
Illfonic has a history of turning popular horror movies into video games, having created titles like Friday the 13th: The Game, Predator: Hunting Grounds, and Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. Their new Halloween game will continue this trend, offering a thrilling and unique multiplayer experience.
Unlike those other movies, the new Halloween will include a full single-player story mode. This mode will delve deeper into the events of the original 1978 film and finally address questions and plot inconsistencies that fans have discussed for years.
New Details on Halloween’s Story Mode
On Halloween 2025, Illfonic announced details about the single-player campaign in their Halloween game. Players will experience the story as Michael Myers, exploring the town of Haddonfield, Illinois, as it appeared in 1978.
The game’s story mode starts with Michael Myers breaking out of Smith’s Grove Sanitarium. Players will see exactly how he escaped and made his way to Phelps Garage.
Players will be able to experience famous and newly created scenes from the 1978 film Halloween at locations from the movie, encountering both familiar and original characters.
The game will use cinematic scenes within the game engine, narrated by Dr. Samuel J. Loomis, to reveal what happened between moments from the movie. These scenes will explain things like how Michael Myers’ stolen truck was found abandoned.
The story mode will not only continue the tale of Michael Myers’ return to Haddonfield, but also offer a range of difficulty settings, bonus challenges, hidden collectibles, and different endings based on how players behave during the game.
