You know, I’m really glad to see Halle Berry’s ‘The Mother’ finally getting some love! It was a solid survival thriller when it came out last year, but honestly, it didn’t do great in theaters. Now it’s really taking off on streaming, which is fantastic. Hopefully, this means we’ll actually get those sequels they were talking about – I’m definitely rooting for this one to become a franchise!
As of November 10, 2025, the movie Never Let Go has reached the Top 10 on Starz, landing at number 10, according to FlixPatrol. The film features Berry and Will Catlett (known from The Mentalist) as parents trying to protect their children in a remote cabin as a sinister force takes over the world. Alexandre Aja (director of Crawl) directed the film, and it shares executive producers with popular shows like Stranger Things and the movie Arrival.
The story centers on a mysterious, dangerous force called ‘The Evil’ that Momma believes has wiped out most of the world, leaving her children and her as the only people left. She’s haunted by visions of strange creatures her sons can’t see, and she’s convinced that their strong family connection is what’s protecting them. She even makes everyone tie ropes to each other when they go outside, just to be safe.
Things get complicated when one of Momma’s sons starts to doubt the evil she perceives, causing cracks to form within the family and making their struggle to survive even more desperate. While “Never Let Go” had a chilling premise, combining supernatural and survival horror elements, it unfortunately didn’t connect with audiences when it was released in September 2024.
The movie Never Let Go earned just $21.8 million in theaters, despite costing $20 million to make. It struggled to compete with other horror films that performed much better. During its opening weekend, Never Let Go came in fourth place, behind Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice (number one), Transformers One (number two), and Speak No Evil (number three).
The film received mixed reactions from both critics and viewers, earning a 56% ‘Rotten’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 105 reviews. While many praised the film’s mood and Halle Berry’s acting, most critics agreed that the story itself had some weaknesses that prevented it from being a truly satisfying experience.
Never Let Go’s Streaming Success Makes a Potential Franchise More Likely
With the initial success of Never Let Go, the possibility of a horror franchise is growing. In September 2024, Halle Berry expressed her enthusiasm for continuing the story, and revealed that scripts for both a prequel and sequel already exist. However, as of now, there hasn’t been an official announcement about future installments.
Although Halle Berry isn’t currently planning another film in the Never Let Go series, she has a new thriller coming out in 2026. She’ll be starring in Crime 101 with Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan. The movie is based on the 2010 novella of the same name by Don Winslow.
Never Let Go is now streaming on Starz.
