Despite a lot of excitement and rumors, Half-Life 3 wasn’t announced in November or early December. Mike Straw, a journalist at Insider Gaming who previously reported Valve was preparing an announcement for the next Half-Life game, is now explaining the reasons for the delay.
As Straw said in the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast:
Everyone I’ve talked to still firmly believes this game will be one of the first available when the Steam Machine launches. However, they haven’t determined the price yet, and that’s delaying any further announcements or progress.
So, why is Valve still keeping the price of the Steam Machine a secret, and why hasn’t it revealed what could be its most popular product yet? Straw has an explanation.
Man, building a PC right now is seriously expensive. RAM and storage drives have gone way up in price – like 200%, 300%, even 500% higher than they were back in October! And honestly, it doesn’t look like things are going to get any cheaper anytime soon.
As for the release date of the Steam Machine, and consequently, Half-Life 3:
Valve is aiming for a spring 2026 release for the Steam Machine, the Frame headset, a controller, and, notably, Half-Life 3.
Mike Straw, however, is confident in his information:
It’s confirmed – the game is happening. The big question now is when it will be revealed, not if it will happen at all. We were expecting news in December, but those plans seem to have changed.
I haven’t been getting information about this game from unknown or unreliable people. These are the same sources who previously provided accurate details about Madden and the upcoming Lord of the Rings game. They continue to believe the game will launch in the spring.
Those who enjoy the Half-Life games are accustomed to long waits, and this time is no different. They’ll have to continue being patient, just as they have for the past 18 years since Half-Life 2: Episode Two came out.
