Hades 2 Cross-Save Guide: How To Use Nintendo Switch Cross-Saves

Hades 2 is officially launching after a period in Early Access, and it will be available on Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Like the first Hades game, you’ll be able to continue your progress across different platforms.

This feature is useful whether you’ve been playing the early version of Hades 2 or are just beginning. Setting it up does require a few steps, but if you’re interested in enabling cross-saves between the Switch and PC versions, here’s a complete guide.

How to transfer your Hades 2 save file from Steam to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

When you start Hades 2 on your Switch or Switch 2, you’ll find a “Cross-Saves” option on the main menu. This lets you connect to your Steam or Epic Games account to continue your progress. I’m using Steam as an example, but the process is similar no matter where you bought the game. Just make sure cloud saves are turned on so your game data is saved automatically.

So, when you choose that option, it’ll take you to a Steam login page. You can type in your details using the Switch’s keyboard, or – and this is super easy – you can use a QR code. Just open the Steam app on your phone, hit the menu button at the bottom right, and go to Steam Guard. Then, choose the option to scan a QR code and point your phone’s camera at your Switch screen. It connects really quickly that way!

First, you’ll receive a request on your phone – please accept it. Then, go back to your Switch. You’ll be asked to confirm the sign-in there. You might also see a screen asking for permission; if you do, select ‘Allow’. If everything works, you’ll get a message saying ‘Connected! Successfully linked Steam account. Cross-Saves enabled.’

When you start the game from the main menu, you’ll see a message indicating it’s syncing your saved data with Steam. This process took about 10 seconds for me, and then my saved game was loaded. You’ll also have a separate cloud save, easily identified by a green checkmark icon.

Your progress is automatically saved across platforms. To make sure your game is saved to Steam, pause the game (+) and choose “Sync & Quit” when you’re done playing. Even during a run, after completing a battle, you’ll see a message telling you it’s safe to quit. You can even enter the next area (like a boss room) and sync your progress then.

The game will ask if you want to save your progress to the cloud and go back to the main menu. Click ‘OK’ and wait a few seconds for it to finish. After that, your saved game will be updated on Steam, so you can access it whenever you play, and your Steam saves will be updated in the game too.

Just to be clear, you need to be connected to the internet for cross-save syncing to work. I tested this by starting the game in airplane mode, and it showed a cloud icon with an ‘x’ through it. When I went back to the main menu, the game saved my progress on my device instead of uploading it to the cloud.

Before you go where you won’t have internet access, quickly sync your game saves to the cloud. If there’s a conflict between your local and cloud saves, you can choose which version to use. I didn’t have any problems, but your experience might be different.

Supergiant Games explains that if you play the same game on both PC and Switch, you might run into save issues. To avoid this, rename your PC save file if it’s in the same slot as your Switch save. For instance, if you’re using save slot one, find the file named ‘Profile1.sav’ on your computer and change it to ‘Profile2.sav’. This will allow the game to sync your progress correctly, keeping your two separate games in different save slots.

So that covers how to move your Hades 2 save from your computer to your Nintendo Switch. Now you’re ready to go, be sure to check out our complete Hades 2 guides for everything you need to know about this exciting new game!
