Hackers have been executing DDoS attack on Arma Reforger and DayZ servers for a week, now reportedly demanding ransom

This past week hasn’t been ideal for ArmA Reforger, as their server problems persist unabated. The predicament started when lead developer Klamacz disclosed on X that the game was being targeted by a DDoS attack. Now, there’s much speculation about who could be behind it, with one group asserting responsibility for the attack.

Hackers behind DDoS attacks on ArmA Reforger and DayZ

On February 1, 2025, Bohemia Interactive disclosed that DDoS attacks weren’t just targeting ArmA Reforger but also affected DayZ. Earlier in the day, a group named Xiangjang_zhi on X (also known as StyleSquad6996), admitted responsibility for the cyber-attacks.

Conversations quickly escalated on Reddit and X as people sought additional information about the hackers’ identities and spread the word about the ongoing incident. Some individuals noted that the account in question had a Chinese name, but it was later discovered to be a Russian group. As of now, theories suggest that the attack’s purpose might be connected to community-run servers within the game ArmA, which facilitated simulations of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict.

On the Telegram Application, the Style Squad is presently revamping their activities. Although images might not be directly translatable by your web browser, you can still understand the general idea.

Regarding their requests, it’s reported that these hackers are supposedly demanding approximately 0.8 Bitcoins, which is around $81,000. Yet, certain sources claim that the attacks might have been done merely for amusement, casting further doubt on their true objectives.

It appears that the attacks have momentarily ceased, since the most recent posts from Xingjang-zhi now request communication with Klamacz. Neither Bohemia Interactive nor the primary developer has issued an official statement concerning the recent happenings as of yet.
