I’m a big fan of Guy Ritchie – he’s constantly working and always delivers exciting action and crime stories, both in movies and on TV. While he usually sticks to that gritty style, he’s not afraid to try something completely different, though not every experiment lands perfectly. Remember that big fantasy film he did back in 2017? It didn’t do great in theaters, but a lot of us really enjoyed it, and I’m glad it’s back on free streaming now!
Starting December 1st, you can stream King Arthur: Legend of the Sword on Tubi. The movie stars Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur and offers a fresh, darker, and more fantastical spin on the classic Excalibur story. It’s packed with impressive visual effects, a great soundtrack, and exciting action sequences, making it stand out from other versions of the legend. While critics didn’t love it when it came out in 2017 (it has a 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), fans of director Guy Ritchie have grown to appreciate this action-packed film, giving it a 69% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
In addition to Hunnam as Arthur, Legend of the Sword stars Jude Law as Vortigern, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey as the Mage, Djimon Hounsou as Sir Bedivere, Eric Bana as Uther Pendrago, Aidan Gillen as Bill, Freddie Fox as Rubio, Craig McGinlay as Percival, Tom Wu as George, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Wet Stick, Neil Maskell as Back Lack, and Annabelle Wallis as Maggie. Read the official synopsis:
After young Arthur’s father is killed, his uncle, Vortigern, takes the throne. Stripped of his rightful inheritance and unaware of his true identity, Arthur grows up struggling in the city’s underbelly. But when he unexpectedly pulls the sword from the stone, his life changes forever, and he must confront the destiny he never knew he had.
Was ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’ a Box Office Flop?

Warner Bros.
Despite costing $175 million to make and being intended as the start of a series, the 2017 film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was a major box office failure. It opened with just $15 million in the US and ultimately earned only $39 million domestically. Worldwide, the film made a total of $149 million, which wasn’t enough to cover its production and marketing costs. While it remains one of Guy Ritchie’s more successful films in terms of overall earnings, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is considered a significant financial disappointment.
