Gunther Is Set To Appear On Raw After Security Had To Protect Him From Furious Fans After He Choked Out John Cena

It was really tough seeing John Cena wrestle what’s likely his last WWE match this weekend, and honestly, a lot of us fans were pretty upset with how it all went. There was a lot of immediate heat on Gunther, especially after a video went around of him being escorted out by security while fans crowded around. But now, it looks like Gunther’s already planning his next match, which is good to hear.

Gunther will be on Monday Night Raw after recently defeating John Cena in a surprising finish to his retirement match, forcing him to submit. Many wrestling fans were disappointed by the outcome, feeling it went against Cena’s famous “Never Give Up” attitude and that a wrestling legend deserved a more respectful send-off.

Everyone knows “The Ring General” faced a lot of backlash for what he did, but I didn’t realize how intense it actually got. This video shows fans swarming around him as he tried to get to his bus after the event.

Thankfully, the crowd’s reaction wasn’t overly aggressive. While fans were closer to the action than WWE usually likes, it’s possible Gunther intentionally left the arena to provoke such a response, knowing it would happen. It also seems likely that those working behind the scenes anticipated a strong negative reaction to John Cena’s loss, and should have arranged a more private exit for him to avoid the immediate backlash.

Gunther isn‘t currently favored by many fans, but that probably isn’t surprising. Having him defeat Cena in what was likely Cena’s last match was always going to be controversial, and it felt predetermined as soon as Gunther was announced as the opponent.

WWE seems to be positioning Gunther as a dominant new villain, much like Randy Orton was known as the “Legend Killer.” While Gunther defeating Goldberg was notable, his recent win over John Cena – and how he won – has really captured the attention of wrestling fans. It makes you wonder if Gunther has now firmly established himself as a long-term bad guy in the world of professional wrestling.

John Cena Explains Why He Used To Win So Many WWE Matches And Why He Thinks It Made Sense

Wrestling stories don’t usually last long, but this moment – defeating John Cena – could define Gunther’s entire career. No matter what he achieves going forward, he’ll always be remembered as the wrestler who retired arguably the greatest of all time in WWE. Many wrestlers were hoped to be Cena’s final opponent, and Gunther was always a strong possibility; Cena has given him a huge opportunity by facing him in this match.

The WWE clearly has high hopes for Gunther, consistently giving him major opportunities. He’s positioned to be the brand’s leading villain for a long time, and potentially even challenge Roman Reigns’ record-breaking championship reign. Beating a legend like John Cena opens up endless possibilities, and he seems poised for huge success.

The next step for Gunther will likely be revealed on Monday Night Raw. While it’s just a guess, he’ll probably challenge for another championship, perhaps aiming for the Intercontinental title again. However, with so much talent already established, he could continue his trend of being the one to defeat wrestling legends as they retire, potentially sending AJ Styles and other stars into retirement in 2026.

You can watch Monday Night Raw on Netflix every Monday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. It’s consistently entertaining, but if you’re interested in seeing what Gunther is up to, be sure to tune in to hear his announcement.
