A group of armed robbers targeted a Pokemon card shop in New York City, stealing over $100,000 worth of cards during a busy event.
On January 14th, three people wearing masks entered The Poke Court in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. The restaurant was busy with employees and customers participating in an arts and crafts event at the time.
Police say the suspects wore black hoodies and masks. During the robbery, at least one of them reportedly pulled out a gun and threatened people in the store.
Security camera footage captured two suspects filling backpacks with valuable Pokémon cards and collectibles, and also taking money from the cash register. A third suspect is said to have blocked the entrance by pulling down a curtain and preventing anyone from exiting.
According to police, the robbery took less than three minutes. Once the robbers ran away, a staff member secured the building and called for help. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

She was heartbroken, saying that it was awful something like this could happen during something as innocent as a Pokémon card arts and crafts session.
I was really relieved to hear from Courtney Chin, the owner of The Poke Court, that everyone inside was okay after what happened. She confirmed that thankfully, no one was physically hurt.
She stated that no one should ever feel threatened while pursuing a hobby, and expressed her gratitude for the incredible support she received after the incident.

This robbery is part of a recent trend of crimes involving Pokémon cards. As the price of rare cards keeps increasing, thieves have been targeting both stores and collectors, resulting in thefts, break-ins, attacks, and even large-scale heists. These crimes have resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cards being stolen.
Police continue to look for the three suspects, and anyone with information is asked to get in touch with them.
