Guild Wars, the popular online role-playing game from 2005, is getting a fresh update called Guild Wars Reforged. This update combines all three of the game’s original storylines into a single package that will cost $20.
On December 3rd, it will be simpler to purchase Guild Wars on Steam with the release of Reforged. Right now, players can choose between the $20 Game of the Year Edition, the $30 Trilogy bundle, or buy each campaign separately for $20. To celebrate its 20th anniversary earlier this year, Guild Wars released a $40 “Masterpiece Collection” that included all the original game content in one package.
ArenaNet is releasing a revamped version of Guild Wars, similar to past updates. This new edition, called Reforged, will bundle the original Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall campaigns into a single purchase. The Eye of the North expansion won’t be included, but the package will also feature improvements to enhance gameplay.
The latest update includes full controller support, aiming for Steam Deck verification (though official confirmation is still awaited). Players can also expect visual upgrades like improved graphics rendering, ambient occlusion, enhanced bloom, updated skill icons in HD, and adjustable text sizes. The update also adds support for high-resolution monitors.
Okay, so the sound in Guild Wars Reforged is totally revamped – they’ve added 3D environmental audio, which is awesome. As for how it plays, honestly, the biggest change is a new system that helps you keep track of quests and points you in the right direction. It’s way easier to figure out where to go now, which is a nice quality-of-life improvement.
While not a complete overhaul, this update brings Guild Wars into the modern era and makes it easier for new players to buy. Existing Guild Wars owners will receive all of these improvements as a free update.
Guild Wars is still popular, and its sequel, Guild Wars 2, is constantly evolving. The game recently launched its sixth major expansion in October, introducing new skills for each character class, fresh ways to customize player homes, and other exciting features.
