Grok’s ‘Ask’ feature no longer free as X moves it behind paywall

X is making its ‘Ask Grok’ AI assistant available only to users with Premium and Premium+ subscriptions while they continue to improve and expand the feature.

On March 12th, the official Grok account announced that the feature is now exclusively for paying subscribers, and encouraged people to subscribe to gain access.

Right now, only users with Premium or Premium+ subscriptions can access Ask Grok. You can get access by subscribing.

The announcement also included example pictures showing that Grok can create AI images right within the app.

X continues expanding Grok across the platform

Grok is an AI chatbot created by xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company. It’s built into the X platform and can have conversations, answer questions, and even create images.

With the “Ask Grok” feature, you can ask the AI assistant to create images or find information for you. For example, the announcement showed Grok making pictures of things like futuristic cars, anime characters, video game controllers, and fashion photos.

By making this feature exclusive to its paid subscriptions, X is linking a key part of Grok to its revenue model. X Premium and Premium+ subscribers already enjoy benefits like fewer ads, prioritized replies, and early access to new features.

Grok is now available for Premium and Premium+ members. Upgrade your subscription to start using it.

This change is happening as X continues to improve how Grok works both within the platform and as a separate app.

So, X recently gave the Grok app a whole new look! They totally revamped the theme – it’s got a fresh visual style now. It feels like they’re really trying to establish Grok as a place you go to, not just an add-on. I’m digging the changes, honestly.

The app’s updated design and the introduction of a subscription fee show that X is working to make Grok a central feature for its paid users, and also to establish it as a service that can succeed on its own, separate from the main social media platform.

This change follows a recent update to X, where the platform removed its traditional dark display setting. The reason given was a limitation in supporting three different color schemes simultaneously.
