Grocery store’s celebrity cat returns after community outcry over eviction

You guys, I’m so happy to report that the famous local cat is back! Everyone in town rallied together and protested when they tried to kick him out of his spot, and now he’s back greeting people at the shops. It’s awesome to see the community come together like that!

Freddie, a sweet brown tabby cat, was famous around the Tesco supermarket in Skegness, England. He loved to sit in a special box near the entrance, happily posing for pictures and making customers smile.

After someone complained, Julie Maczynski started a petition on Change.org when Freddie’s box was taken away. Lincolnshire World reported that the petition quickly gained thousands of signatures from supporters around the UK and even internationally, who described Freddie as a source of happiness for the community.

Tesco evicts Freddie after one complaint

East Lindsey District Council confirmed they hadn’t requested Freddie be removed. After a good discussion with Tesco, they reached a friendly agreement, and Freddie is now welcome to continue visiting the store’s entrance as usual.

Julie shared a thankful message with Lincolnshire World, describing her recent meeting as friendly. She asked everyone to relax and enjoy watching her son, Freddie, play. She also explained that Tesco employees were just doing their job and expressed her gratitude for all the supportive messages she’s received.

Tesco had said Freddie was a beloved local figure, but they also needed to prioritize food safety and prevent him from entering the store.

Everyone is hoping Freddie can go back to his usual spot with his box and blanket at the Skegness entrance soon. Even though things are tough, he still makes an effort to say hello and welcome customers.

Although Freddie might see himself as unlucky, other cats are actively planning and carrying out robberies – like the famous orange tabby who made off with a whole corned beef brisket.
