Gremlins 3 Is Coming, and It Better Have the Sexy One

While Disney has Baby Yoda, Warner Bros. is bringing back the original mischievous creatures with big ears: the Gremlins! Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that Gremlins 3 is in development. Steven Spielberg, who was involved with the first Gremlins movie, will return as a producer. Chris Columbus, the writer of the original film, will also produce and direct, co-writing the script with Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein – the team behind the 2025 Final Destination reboot. Fans can expect Gremlins 3 in theaters on November 19, 2027.

Released in 1990, Gremlins 2: The New Batch didn’t achieve the same blockbuster success as the original 1984 film. While the first Gremlins earned a huge profit—$212 million from an $11 million budget—the sequel, which cost around $50 million to make, only brought in a little over $40 million, according to Consequence of Sound. Because of this, the Gremlins franchise has remained largely inactive until recently.

This isn’t the first attempt at a new Gremlins movie. Warner Bros. actually tried to quickly develop a third film back in 2015, but it fell through. Director Chris Columbus has said that a CGI-heavy approach wouldn’t work, because the original Gremlins felt like mischievous puppets brought to life by a large team of puppeteers – and that unique energy is essential. It’s currently unknown how the new film will create the Gremlins, but with Columbus involved, many hope they’ll use practical effects and puppetry. Fans are especially eager to see more of Greta, the memorable female Gremlin from the second movie, and are hoping for a return to that character’s design.
